As Senior Analyst for South Sudan, Daniel’s research focuses on the political economy of public authority and its relation to violence in South Sudan, aiming to provide insights into conflict prevention, mitigation and resolution in the region.

Professional Background

Prior to joining Crisis Group in 2024, Daniel worked as an independent conflict analyst based mostly in the Washington, DC area. He has studied extensively and obtained a B.A. in theology and a B.A. in mathematics from the University of San Diego in 2007, an M.A. in mathematics at the University of Colorado in 2010 and most recently, a Ph.D. in mathematics at Claremont Graduate University in 2023. Daniel has researched the nexus between conflicts and a series of other phenomena (corruption, instrumentalisation of fear, and climate shocks).
