Secretary of State Anthony Blinken reiterated that “we have an interest in putting… [Iran’s nuclear program] back in a box and then seeing if we can actually build something even longer and stronger in terms of the duration of the [nuclear] agreement, and also dealing with some of the other actions that Iran takes that we have a real problem with – ballistic missiles, the actions it takes in its neighbourhood”. Relatedly, a U.S. diplomatic spokesperson underscored that “the U.S. is prepared to meet with Iran to address the way forward on a mutual return to compliance with the JCPOA”, adding: “We’re not dogmatic about what form that takes. What we are dogmatic about is the underlying commitment to the fact that… Iran cannot be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon”.
